Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue admits sick, injured, unwell or orphaned wild hedgehogs from across Cornwall, rehabilitating them through to release back into the wild.
This is Darren, he is the chairman and founder of Clay Country Plant Fayre.
In the first year he pulled everything together in such a short space of time and it was a fantastic event.
What has driven him to do this is to get lots of local growers/makers together along with charities and to raise much needed funds for Prickles & Paws Hedgehog Rescue.
Darren works tirelessly to ensure we have plenty of charities and stall holders attending the Plant Fayre, next year he has secured a bigger venue which means more stalls.
Darren is a keen gardener growing his own plants from seeds or cuttings, his favourite being heleniums.
The Pre-School is in the heart of the cornish clay village of Roche. The setting cares for children aged between 3 months-4 years. It boasts a large outside area with educational spaces for children to freely explore. Our setting provides a home from home environment where children can feel secure and empowered to embark on their own learning journey. Our dedicated team of practitioners, support, and model play with children so that they learn independence and develop an understanding that their thoughts, ideas, and emotions are valid and valued.
Favourite Plant or Flower
Sunflowers.
I am an APHA registered British grower of species, cool growing, topical orchids. The orchids I grow have been grown from seed, by in vitro, in my lab or from cuttings from larger orchids. My orchids are never wild collected. There are 28,000 species of orchid in the world, growing on every continent, with the exception of Antarctica. I have 250 of these species in my small orchid nursery. The orchids I grow are threatened in the wild by deforestation, collection for house plants and medicine. There is no need to wild collect orchids as they can be mass produced in a lab. An orchid seed pod contains millions of tiny seeds which, if given the right conditions, will produce many viable orchids. The process is a long one as a species orchid can take 4 years to produce a viable plant but the end result is definitely worth it. I sell my orchids as houseplants and terrarium plants to UK buyers.
Favourite Plant or Flower?
My favourite plants are obviously orchids. The Photos show Phalaenopsis mariae grown from seed with its first flower and prosthechea cochleata which, after eight years, has produced its first flower.
We are delighted they are attending and traveling all the way from Chard in Somerset. I've been growing and showing fuchsias for over 25 years. This is a passionate hobby to me and is all done in my spare time. I'm also a member of the British Fuchsia Society for over 30 years and we have enjoyed showing at many of the large shows over the years.
This wonderful hobby has also allowed me to exhibit at the Hampton Court Flower show. This is where we have managed to win Bronze and silver medals and the last year we showed we managed to win a silver gilt medal. I gain my passion from growing award winning fuchsias for the public to grow on and enjoy themselves in there gardens.
Favourite Plant
I do enjoy all plants, but obviously my favorite has to be the Fuchsia.
Cornwalls Bird Box Man
I make wooden bird boxes, bug hotels, Bat boxes etc. All hand made from unwanted off cuts of wood, all my boxes are then screwed together.
This is my hobby, I’ve always been interested in British Garden Birds and wanted to make them a warm 5 star home in Cornwall to live in.
Favourite plant/tree.
Silver Birch tree, all grasses for movement in the garden, all perennials.
I have been gardening for about 50 years. I started growing house plants in the 1970's. Progressed to growing veggies, when I had a house with a garden. Then I went over to growing ornamental. I have been collecting different hardy geraniums for about 17 years and love the variety and different colours as Margery Fish said "if in doubt plant a geranium" so very true.
Favourite Plant
It's between a lovely Psilostemon hybrid called Dragonheart which is magenta and a Buxton blue hybrid called Havana Blue.
My name's Emma. I run a sustainable floristy business in St. Austell. When starting out in floristry, I quickly realised that the floristry business is very unsustainable, and I felt I needed to do something about that. So, with that in mind, I decided to start growing my own flowers to use in my flower bouquets.
The flowers are grown mainly on my allotment in an organic way with no chemicals or pesticides, and all my arrangements and bouquets are plastic and foam free.
During the winter months, I was able to source flowers from other British and local growers and made the decision to only sell British grown flowers so that my bouquets have a very small carbon footprint. Having not been flown around the world.
I love growing flowers that you may not see in a standard florist or supermarket bouquets, and as I hand deliver all my flowers, I can use flowers that are unique and unusual.
My name Emma Bowen-Jones, I live in the Pentewan Valley where I propagate plants for sale from my wide variety of perennials. I run a plant stall at my gate from April to October and occasionally assist customers with design and planting. I grow fruit, vegetables, herbs, ornamental and houseplants.
Gardening is everything to me. It keeps me going!
I don't really have a favourite plant but Russian Comfrey would be a contender for its usefulness in the garden and it's healing qualities for animals or humans.

I work closely together with my clients, I design and build individualised outdoor wooden buildings and structures. Careful consideration is given to not only my clients requests and needs, but also to the overall look and location of the build. I do not compromise on the quality of construction or materials used.
Recent builds have included: garden rooms; outdoor office buildings; summer houses; car ports; workshops; fencing and garden furniture; plus much more.
More photo’s of my work can be found on my facebook page.
Since I was very young, I have always had an interest in creating and making things: my dream was to run my own business. When I was 12 years old I built my first garden seat from scraps/offcuts of wood that I collected from various places on my bike: it is still being used today, nine years on! At the age of 13, I set up a shop at the bottom of my driveway and started selling window boxes; planters and wooden trugs. People began knocking on my door asking for bespoke sized window boxes. I was even asked to create a hedgehog house which then led to requests for chicken, tortoise and turkey houses; recycling storage units and picnic tables. I spent all my weekends creating things from wood - my passion for carpentry was born, and my brand name, ‘Rory’s Wooden Designs’ , and logo, was launched.
In 2021, at the age of 18, I was awarded ‘Cornwall Apprentice of the Year’ in construction and trade. Now, at the age of 21, I have been running my own successful carpentry business, ‘Rory’s Wooden Designs’, for three years.
I have a passion for design and quality. I love my job and enjoy working with my clients to design and build bespoke outdoor buildings and structures.
My favourite plant/tree/flower, It’s really hard to pick a favourite tree as I like them all - especially when they are grouped together in a woodland. Again, it’s really hard to pick a favourite flower, but if I were to pick one, a Cornish Daffodil ‘springs’ to mind!
We are Cornwall's premiere Birding Society known as Cornwall Bird Watching & Preservation Society' or 'Cornwall Birds' for short.
We record Bird sightings in Cornwall and prepare the county bird report 'Birds in Cornwall'. We own/manage a number of Bird Reserves in the county. Our flagship reserve being the 'Walmsley Sanctuary' near Wadebridge. We arrange talks on Bird related topics which are open to members and non-members alike. We also give talks to local clubs and societies on request.
Who doesn't love watching birds. We have over 1000 members that certainly do. We strive to educate others and provide opportunities to see their favorite birds. Most bird species are in decline and we actively participate in activities to help reverse this decline. One of our biggest success stories is the restoration of the Red-billed (or 'Cornish') Chough in the county after they became extinct in 1973. After 3 Birds returned in 2001 we now have between 300 & 350 Birds in Cornwall and numbers are growing almost exponentially every year. This we achieved working in
collaboration with the RSPB and the National Trust.

Stitch and Sketch, makes crochet plants and flowers.
I discovered my love for crochet six years ago, and since then I've developed a deep passion for creating flowers and plants. This love stems from my own affection for house plants and the joy I get from having these little crocheted versions to scattered around my home. They add a touch of character and warmth. I wanted to share this happiness with others and I believe even those without a green thumb can appreciate and enjoy my creations.
My favourite flower is a tulip, my favourite plant is a house plant called pothos and my favourite tree is weeping willow.

Carn Terrariums, I build mini landscapes enclosed in beautiful pre-loved glass, bringing the beauty of the plants around us into your home, creating a sense of calm and relaxation.
I love being outside surrounded by nature but in the winter there isn't always the chance to spend so much time outdoors, so creating my terrariums allows me to surround myself with plants which I can in turn bring to other people to enjoy.
My favourite plant/tree, that's such a difficult question to answer as there are new plants to love with each season, but i do love peonies and astrantia, but my favourite is a rose that my late Dad grew for me.
My name is Graham and I grow native trees. Ash, Beech, Cob, Alder Oak, Holm Oak,Walnut, Mulberry, Maple, Elm.

Meadowbank Poultry and Preserves is a two part hobby business. At Meadowbank Poultry we rear chicks, sell point of lay pullets, sell fresh eggs and make bespoke poultry and water fowl houses specifically for gardens in mind. As for Meadowbank Preserves this is relatively new business but what I have learnt in a short time the general public like natural produce with NO additives. I specialise in Chutneys, Fruit Jams and Jellies, Fresh Pickled Onions and Eggs.
No one day is the same for me. I could be feeding the poultry and waterfowl in the morning and making sweet Chilli jam in the afternoon. I like to see smiles on people’s faces when they buy a product and say I can’t wait to try more of it!
My favourite plant/tree/flower are Camelia Tree – Magnolia Flower – Fuchsia
Bleujyowa - Curious Plants
We grow interesting and unusual plants most of which originate from seeds, cuttings or divisions from our own Carlyon Bay garden. Many of our plants are tender and we also usually focus on a lot of Southern Hemisphere plants. A particular favourite are South African Watsonia and we sell quite a few different ones.
I enjoy propagating plants and get a lot of satisfaction from working in my own garden. I think that gardening can be very therapeutic for all of us. I work with children and adults to develop their wellbeing and gardening skills at the same time. I first started selling plants when people looking at our Sea Road garden began asking if we sold plants.
I have always enjoyed being outside and had a fondness for all forms of nature. There have been quite a few keen gardeners in the
family but I only started to develop a serious interest in gardening when I had my first House in Oxford in the late 1980's. We feel we have transformed our own Carlyon Bay garden over the last thirty years and this is where our small business is based.
My name is Charlotte and I make Slate signs and pictures using rustic Cornish slate, reclaimed from cottages in Cornwall. I buy in Slate and make plant/veg identification tags. I use paints and paint pens to decorate. The majority of my Slate is suitable for use outside as I varnish with yacht varnish. One of the most popular Slates I paint is "Trespassers will be Composed".
I love working with reclaimed materials and I love seeing my work in people's homes and gardens.
My favourite Tree: I love a Birch. Flower: I love Sunflowers !
Cornwall Bonsai Society have a programme of events for each month is provided and held at Grampound Community Hall. We meet the last Wednesday of the month, January to November.
At present we have 31 members ranging from ages 18 to 80. Our meetings are very relaxed and friendly, we have demonstrations and talks by our Bonsai members and also practical demonstrations where any member can be involved. We also arrange, during the course of the year, other events, exhibitions and work-shops. We are also listed on the Bonsai Association Register.
Why do we do, what we do - The fascination of seeing Bonsai trees progress. A lot of people may think that you need to have green fingers and be very good at gardening to have a Bonsai. Fortunately you don't have to have skills but a lot of enthusiasm to see your tree change during the different seasons. Within our members there is a lot of experience and knowledge and they are always willing to help and give advice in managing your Bonsai. There are so many plants that can be made into a Bonsai. We show our trees annually over a weekend at Trebah.
Our favourite flower/tree/plant - flower = Hibiscus. Tree = Acer. Plant = Mandavilla.
Leggs is a community rewilding project on a one and a half acre leased area of glebe land in the centre of Luxulyan. There are three areas Little Meadow which is being developed into a wildlife meadow, Little Moor which has been planted with Cornish apple trees bordered by a marshy area and Drying yard field which is an area of sunny grassland bordered by mature trees and a stream. We are planting some hedgerows and developing some areas suitable for forest school activities. We have provided picnic tables, bug hotels, bird boxes, dead hedges and pathways so far with plans to dig out a pond area in Little moor. We have a store room and a sheltered seating area. We have hosted a scything course this year so we can cut our grass in an ecologically sensitive way.
We are a small group of volunteers who are passionate about the conservation of our native wildlife and habitats within our village; we are aware of the damage climate change and human interference can make and in our own small way feel we can make a difference in our community. We hope our passions are passed on to the school children we work with and on to the adults that benefit from the opportunities for wellbeing and peace and quiet found in the project.
I'm fascinated by the web of life/support system found in a mature tree. I'm sure other members of the team would have a different answer!

Growing is a great opportunity to be outdoors and is good for the soul. It teaches planning and patience, seeing a flower bloom after months or even years of care is a great sense of achievement.
I can't decide between a Peony or a Lily as my favourite, it depends on the day and time of year!

I am Kernow Dahlia’s, I am a relatively new business started in March 2024. I have been
growing Dahlia’s passionately for the last few years on my driveway at home until I had the
opportunity to set up business in a polytunnel.
I grow Dahlia’s on a large scale now to sell, last year I grew over 400 plants for cut flowers.
These were grown from the mother tubers, divided tubers and cuttings grown on to become
plants. Everything I grow is organic no pesticides are used and packaging is also recyclable.
This year I plan to sell plants as well as cut flowers and experience days, where you can get
to see how and where the plants are grown, cut your own flowers, and learn how to condition
and arrange them to take home. I had great success and feedback from the local community
and local florists we supplied last year and I hope to keep expanding the business over the
next few years.
I have always had a passion for growing and have enjoyed creating our garden at home with
my partner. It was during this time I discovered Dahlia’s with over 42 species and thousands
of cultivars, from collarettes to dinner plates each and every one has its own beauty. I
wanted to give something back to the community we had people stopping at our gate
admiring these beautiful flowers, and I was asked on many an occasion if I would sell them. I
eventually took the plunge and have not stopped since, the community have been very
supportive and most have said they prefer to buy local rather than supermarket flowers. That
is why I do this not just for the pleasure I get from producing such amazing plants, but for
bringing a little happiness and brightness into people’s days.
I would have to say without a doubt my favourite plant would be the Dahlia.
Hey, I’m Vix and after 16 years of running my own seasonal catering and hospitality business, where long hours from March to November left little time for anything else. I decided it was time for a change. The shift came after Covid, when I reassessed my work-life balance and found the opportunity to pursue something I’ve always loved: growing and gardening. While this isn’t my main job, I now have the flexibility to fully embrace it and this is just the start of my journey.
Gardening has always been a part of my life. Growing up in Cornwall and Devon, with parents who gardened for pleasure, I developed a deep appreciation for the natural world. For me, growing is a labour of love and watching something thrive from seed to full bloom is endlessly rewarding. I’m not a trained horticulturist, but I’ve learned through experience, trial and error, and the knowledge passed down from my parents.
Beyond the joy of growing, what truly drives me is the desire to leave the land in a better state than I found it. I believe we all have a role to play in protecting our environment, and for me, that means creating a garden that supports pollinators, encourages biodiversity, and nurtures the wildlife around us. Every plant I grow, every flower that feeds a bee, and every corner of my garden that offers shelter to insects and birds feels like a small step toward making a difference. Nature gives us so much and it’s only right that we give something back.
The name Dahlias Not Donuts comes from my early obsession with growing dahlias, but these days, they’re just a small part of what I grow. My real focus is on hardy perennials, plants that return bigger and better each year, filling the garden with colour, movement, and life. If it attracts bees, butterflies, or other wildlife, I’m all for it. My garden is all about vibrancy, texture, and creating a space that feels alive , bursting at the seams and ever-changing.
It’s impossible to pick just one, but I have a real love for hardy perennials like echinacea and salvias. They’re resilient, beautiful, and a magnet for pollinators, exactly what I want in my garden!
